What an FTA tax invoice must show
The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) expects a full tax invoice to include:
- the words “Tax invoice”
- your name, address and TRN
- the customer’s name, address and TRN, if registered
- a sequential invoice number and the date of issue (and date of supply if different)
- a description of the goods or services, quantity, unit price and the VAT rate
- the amount excluding VAT, any discount, the VAT in dirhams and the total
If you invoice in another currency, show the VAT amount in AED too. Simplified tax invoices are allowed in some cases. Check tax.gov.ae for the full rules.
Important: UAE e-invoicing
The UAE is introducing mandatory e-invoicing for business-to-business and business-to-government sales, with invoices exchanged through accredited service providers and reported to the FTA. Voluntary use started in July 2026, and mandatory phases are planned from 2027, starting with larger businesses. Check the Ministry of Finance and FTA websites for your date.
Once e-invoicing applies to your business, a PDF from here will not count as a valid tax invoice for B2B sales. It remains useful for quotations, proformas, sales to consumers, and businesses that are not VAT-registered (who should set Tax to “No tax” and not show a TRN).
