Important: GRA E-VAT and VAT invoices
Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) requires VAT-registered businesses to issue VAT invoices through its E-VAT system, using certified invoicing software or devices that report each invoice to GRA. Buyers rely on these invoices to claim input tax.
A PDF made here is not an E-VAT invoice, because it is not sent to GRA. That is why the preset starts with tax off. It is useful for:
- quotations and proforma invoices before a sale
- businesses that are not VAT-registered
- clients outside Ghana, and receipts for your own records
Check gra.gov.gh or ask a tax adviser about the E-VAT rollout for your business.
VAT and levies in Ghana from 2026
From 1 January 2026, Ghana reformed its VAT. The COVID-19 levy was abolished, and the NHIL (2.5%) and GETFund levy (2.5%) now sit alongside 15% VAT on the same base, for a combined rate of about 20%. Registered businesses can now claim the levies back as input tax, and the flat rate scheme was scrapped.
GRA’s modified invoice shows the levies separately from VAT. In this editor you can use “Per item” or one combined 20% line for a quote, but for official invoices use your E-VAT system. The registration threshold also changed in 2026; check GRA’s guidance for the current rules.
Frequently asked questions
Is an invoice from this template valid for GRA?
It is a proper commercial invoice, but it is not an E-VAT invoice, so a registered customer may not be able to claim input tax on it. Use it for quotes, proformas and foreign clients.
What is the VAT rate in Ghana?
From 2026 the standard VAT rate is 15%, plus the NHIL and GETFund levies of 2.5% each, about 20% in total. Check GRA for exempt and zero-rated supplies.
Where do I put my MoMo number?
In the notes at the bottom of the invoice, with the registered name, so your client can check it before paying.
Can I invoice in US dollars?
You can change the currency in the editor for foreign clients. Local sales are normally priced in cedis.
